Background
Teams encouraged to experiment independently
Sharing Results
In Command & Control Environments
The experiment is reported to a leader with authority, reviewed, and then pushed out to teams.
In Autonomous Environments
Open sharing between teams, with no expectations on the hearers.
Adopt – it solves a problem they need solving
Adapt – there is something interesting here, but it doesn’t fit us exactly. We’ll take some of it but make it our own
Ignore – we have no duty to review your results. If it doesn’t sound related to the problems we’re facing, or if we’re too busy to experiment today, or for any other reason, we can ignore your findings.
How to share
- special demo (“hey everyone, at 1pm today we’ll be demoing X”)
- group messages (“hey everyone, we built X and you can use it if you want. ”)
- recommendation from a mentor (“hey, that problem you’re facing, I think this other team has been working on something related. Maybe you want to chat with them?”)
- lightning talk – monthly department meeting where anyone can sign up to do a 5-minute presentation on a topic of their choosing
